Your Brother HL-L2350DW keeps showing "Toner Low" or "Replace Toner" even after installing a new cartridge? Brother laser printers use a page counter system that needs to be manually reset. Here's exactly how to do it.
Why Does the Error Persist After Replacing Toner?
Brother laser printers don't detect toner levels the way inkjet printers do. Instead, they use an internal page counter that tracks how many pages have been printed since the last reset. When you replace the toner cartridge, the counter doesn't reset automatically — you need to do it manually through the printer's control panel.
Reset Procedure for HL-L2350DW
Alternative Reset Method (Using Menu)
If the button method doesn't work, you can also reset through the printer menu:
- On the control panel, press Menu.
- Navigate to Machine Info → Reset Menu.
- Select Toner Reset and confirm.
- Press Stop/Exit to return to Ready mode.
Important Notes
- Drum vs. Toner: The HL-L2350DW also has a separate drum unit with its own counter. If you see "Drum End Soon," you'll need to reset the drum counter separately (press Go 2 times with the cover open, then press Go 5 times).
- Genuine vs. Compatible: Some third-party toner cartridges may not work with the reset procedure. If the reset doesn't clear the error, try a genuine Brother TN-760 cartridge.
- Don't skip the new toner: The reset procedure doesn't magically add toner. Make sure you've actually installed a new cartridge before resetting.
What If the Error Comes Back?
If the "Toner Low" message returns shortly after resetting, the cartridge may be defective or the toner may not be distributed evenly. Remove the cartridge, gently rock it side to side 5–6 times to redistribute the toner powder, and reinstall it.
